Topic: 1964 1/2 Hood

I have only posted on here a couple times but hope to get more involved. Trying to get garage up but the weather will just not let it happen.
I went on a parts buying journey about a month ago. I picked up another of the Towne Top removable hard top. I also got a 1964 1/2 Hood that has original yellow paint, no rust and no damage. It had been inside for over 20 years.
My big question is what would the hood sell for. It is unique in that the stamping date on the hood is C 17 C2 which I think translates to March 17 Cleveland stamping plant Second shift. If that is so this hood would be correct for pre production units built before April 17, 1964 and any of the early production cars. I do not have a 1964 1/2 and will sell but I don't want to give it away either. I would think a date code that early is very rare and in perfect shape.

There were 2 versions of 64.5 hoods, the first one does not have the front corners turned out and was used on about the first 6 weeks of production.  If you have the first version, that's the more rare one.

Value-wise, I would say the earlier one would be worth more to the right person, but not going to be many folks on the market that need one.

Might want to check the date code again. Stamping plants normally didn't use a letter but instead a number to identify the month stamped on hoods.

Also interesting that you show the plant code before the shift during that period

Back in the early-'90s, a friend offered me $250 for my 64 1/2 hood, because his '64 1/2 had a '65 hood.  Don't know if that was a good price or not, but I didn't sell it, cuz then I wouldn't have had a hood for my car.

Depending how early the build date was on his car, it may have had the correct hood on it.

Possibly, but he was sure it was the wrong hood, I think it might have been replaced because of a wreck or something.  Not as much info back then as there is now.
I still have my car, I wonder if he still has his.
