Wiring into the doors for pony interior
« on: May 30, 2010, 08:21:37 PM »
I have a 65 with factory pony interior.  I bought the car taken apart and in boxes.  The hinge pillar and doors have the holes drilled in them for the wires to go into the doors for the courtesy light.  I don't have the wiring yet, but how did ford run the wires from the doors to the hinge pillar?  Was there some sort of loom to protect them, or just a grommet into each hole with the wires taped together and run in between them?  Does anyone have any pics of this?

Thanks,
Doug

The grommets were part of the harness. There's also a braided cloth outer covering. Here's a link to a repop harness on Ebay:

I believe it's a pretty accurate repop, but I'm sure someone can confirm this or point out any differences that may exist.

(I have no connection to the seller, just listing as reference for the photo)

Thank you very much.  I should have looked harder.  I'm not doing a concours resto, so I'll just buy two repops and be done.  I'm installing power windows also and need two more wires to go into the door and that loom looks like it can handle two more wires, so all is good!!

Doug you're quit welcome. Since you outlined what you're doing and the concern about extra wires, that particular harness was for lights only. There's another harness also available containing the wiring for door lights AND door speakers! If you need even more wires to work with, you may consider this one too (don't know how much extra wiring you are looking at for your mods).

Yep, after you replied, I went looking in my John's Mustang catalog and saw that.  I'll just buy the one with the speaker wires and use those to run the power windows.

Thanks,
Doug

I imagine that you'll have your light assemblies out of the door while you're doing the wiring. Would it be possible for you to take a few measurements for me? I need the distance from the door bottom edge to the bottom of the door light and rear door edge to rear door light opening. I'm adding a set to non-pony interior doors and don't have one to measure from. If you can provide the measurements it would be greatly appreciated! Good luck with your project!

These measurements are from the door edge to the bottom rear corner of the hole cut in the door for the light.  4.5" from the rear and 1.5" from the bottom.  Make a pattern first from your light.  It is a weird shaped hole because of how the light screws on.
