1966 Mustang Original Engine?
« on: December 31, 2015, 01:29:27 AM »
Hi,

I just picked up a 1966 GT Coupe from the original owners family.  It has a 302 engine in it now but came with a 66 short block that was said to be the original engine.  The info on the data tag are:

6RO7A187xxx
Scheduled build date: 18D (April 18th)

The engine casting date was on 6A5 (Jan 5, 66) and assembly date was A11T (January 11th)

Is this to early? Does any one have a car around this date to confirm.  The engine appears to be standard bore.

Thanks!!

Mark

It's a bit early, but not unreasonable.

Ok Thanks! If I found a car close to my scheduled build date will that work, or were assembled engines put in randomly? Meaning could a car scheduled build date a couple days before mine have a later date?

thx!

Yes especially considering that a car with an earlier build date could have been built weeks after a car with a later scheduled build date

Thanks, So there is really no real way in determining unless I knew what was in there before.  So just use the acceptable 3 months or so before scheduled build date?

Given the plant I would think that somewhere between 1-3 months (for the casting and even assembly date) would be typical
