shaker ram air ?
« on: December 06, 2015, 04:22:28 PM »
I bought my 69 mach 1 351w4v new,now has 20k on it.  I have had several folks claim 351w could be ordered w/shaker ram air. I know that in 70 some 351w2v ram air were available....I reciently picked up a brochure (looks like repop) claiming a ram air kit was avail.  I tried to order this option back when I bought my car. my dad who was the salesman looked at  all the options at the time and it was an option 428 only.......could the experts give me their opinion........thanks Mick

I think the 351 and also the 390 could have gotten shakers.
It might have been a late year availability thing.

I'm no expert, but it is my understanding that for 1969 it was indeed a 428CJ only option.  This option would have made the car an "R-code" / ram-air 428CJ.

In 1970 the shaker hood scoop became available for other engines.

See page 3 of the 69 brochure.
Functional “Shaker” scoop is optional in place of simulated scoop with 351 or 390 CID V-8’s

Read the blue drag pack shaker brochure that came out early spring ish of 69 as that booklet talks about all 3 shaker options & calling the v-w code cars the drag pack option instead of optional axle.

I know Ford made a 351W shaker, 1969 or 1970 I don't' know. Google it, very unique base. The air cleaner base had to be made with an offset so that the 'shaker' scoop, fit one hole in the hood.

Agreed - there were plenty of non-428 shaker cars built in 69.

Was this originally one of those - you would need to get a marti report to prove that point since (unlike the 428CJ) the VIN will not provide the answer

"The 69 351 Windsor shaker set up is rare and VERY valuable if complete...very unique snorkel etc"

+1, especially the snorkel , REALLY hard to find.....

All the shaker bases are unique, 69 351, 69 390, 69 428 (early and late),70 Boss 302, 70 351W, 70 351C, and 70 428.

I think the 69 390 is the hardest to find, the 70 Boss 302 base is the most valuable, and the 69 Windsor snorkel is the hardest to find...

Just my humble opinion

John

Very cool!  I learned something :-)

Or maybe relearned?  I think I was mixing my cougars and mustangs, as far as ram-air goes (not so much the shaker part, of course).  Heck, I have a picture of a '69 351 shaker car that cycles on my screen saver!

Great information here though.
