New to site! 1965 coupe
« on: November 19, 2015, 10:50:47 PM »
Hey there, just joined the site and finally after about five years of sitting in the garage I am pulling out my mustang and restoring her. Drove her in high school for a while until small things were going wrong and so decided to store her until I had the time to work on her. Recently I found all the paperwork starting from the day it was purchased October 10, 1964 amazing! She needs a major engine rebuild, body isn't too bad but will be possibly changing the door skins due to previous damage but not too sure yet the best option for that so maybe some opinions! then repainting her the original white and a some interior work...and of course it's the palomino I've heard from some posts that color is the most difficult to match up.
well I will post my current pictures before I start my project and will keep on posting.

Thanks everyone
any advice would be amazing.

Welcome to the forum. I would say the most important thing to do is have fun. For your own benefit, read the posts and look at what's in the library. You will find a lot of assistance here no matter what you do.

Couple words of advice with that Palomino interior... color match now before stripping and then buying paint that looks nothing like original.  Don't throw away any of the interior parts until you compare it to what you're replacing it with.  That color scheme is one of the most difficult to get right.

As others mentioned, have fun.  It will be frustrating at times, but the end result is always worth the time investment.

I second that entirely.  The colors on some of the aftermarket stuff are pretty different than the original stuff.  And unless something has changed since I did mine in 2007, nobody makes a Palomino dashpad, so you'll have to buy a neutral one and dye it to get the correct color.
Too much junk, too little time.

Welcome to the best Mustang resource.

Good luck with your restoration, there's no question that can't be answered here.

There's also some good articles on the web, some with comments from members here, here's a couple I like to read from time to time, they never get old.

and don't throw away anything until the car is completed.

Dom

Welcome and thanks for the pictures!  I particularly enjoyed them since I have a palomino interior car too.  ;)   Is your dash pad original? Looks to have a greenish tint?

Good luck and keep us posted with your progress.

And take LOTS of pictures during the disassembly.  Where wire clips go, which bolts go where, etc.

Just finished my car and the folks on this forum were very helpful when I was stuck on how to get something done or just had an oddball question.

Have fun!
