Topic: restoring hubcaps?

Has anyone tried to restore the paint on the spinner hubcaps?  I have a couple where some of the black has flaked off.

I've restored 2 out of 4 spinner hubcaps on my '66.  Lots of tedious taping and masking.  And believe me, a '66 hubcap looks like taping it up would be a breeze compared to a '65.  I don't know how you'd do a '65 hubcap without some sort of mask.  It would take forever to try and mask it by hand.

I agree!  The idea of masking every line is a nightmare.  I was even thinking about having a vinyl decal cut for each section to use as a mask, but I'm still leery of taking on this project.
 
Do you happen to know what the color is?  Mine look like a charcoal color, but I assume it was originally the camera case black.  If I do shoot it, I'll probably go with rustoleum semigloss or satin rather than using a rattle can

Sorry, I don't know the exact color.  I know for a '66 it's Light Argent and Dark Argent.  I agree that it does look like black on the '65 hubcaps I've seen.  That's not a bad idea about having a decal cut.  I'm surprised no one has come up with one yet.

I have one NOS hubcap I would sell, and a few nice OEM's as well.
None of them have the spinners, but that is an easy swap.
I also have some 64.5 as well. The color on those are different, more flat.

 If you decide to take the time to do this, I'd advise buying striper's tape. It will make curves more easily than masking tape and leaves a clean line when removed.

if you look closely at original hubcaps you will not see crisp painted lines. the edges are slightly fuzzy indicating some type of mask was used. agree that one should be reproduced.

Thank you for the offer, but fortunately, I have my originals that are in decent shape, just that some of the paint is worn off in areas
