67 S code questons
« on: November 13, 2015, 02:33:44 PM »
I am restoring a 67 Dearborn S code fastback built 2-15-67. We do not have the original engine and are trying to put together a period correct 390 4V.
Some intakes use short bolts on the rear and other use the longer bolts with spacers. which is correct?
Here are two filter adaptors which of them is correct? We could not find part numbers.
I wish there was a Mannel book for big blocks
Thanks Marty

Marty,
Part of your answer is in the Library Section, "Mustang Hardware Spreadsheets 67-68 - file MHW67-68AP02.xls (ENGINE,INTAKE MANIFOLD - ). I say "part" because the only published info that is available is Ford Car Parts Illustrated Section 60 page 9, plus some input from others on the forum.

Marty,

From studying LOTS of photographs, a few junkyard cars ('67-'69) and a few FEs that I have accumulated ('66-'68), the spacers on the rear intake bolts appear to have been introduced for the '68 model year, and carried at least into '69. I have not looked beyond that to see if and when they stopped. But so far I'm not seeing spacers for '67 and earlier.

Oil filter adapters:

The rear one looks like C0AE-A, used through '67.
The front one looks like C8AE-A, used '68 and up.

They both should have part numbers cast in - look at Mustangtek's photos to see where they're located:
