1965 Strut Rod Support Bracket Extra Holes
« on: October 22, 2015, 02:03:50 AM »
Hi,
I just noticed that my wife's 65 SJ vert has these extra holes in the strut rod support brackets that are not in my 66 NJ Coupe.
Just wanting to know if they are factory correct or weather I should weld them up?

Thanks,
Dan.

I've never seen those before on any 1966 Mustangs. I'd weld them up. If it was a 1964.5 maybe this is where the horns would mount.

Factory holes for 64 horns. If your car is an early 65, they are probably left over inventory being used (Ford was not building concourse grade Mustangs). There are many documented 64 Mustang parts used on early 65 Mustangs, mostly the hood and headlight buckets. Depending on the build date, leave them - don't weld them up.

+1 for provisional holes for the 64 1/2 horn placement... I agree Ford was probably using what they had on hand...

Don't think that holds up unless we can determine when they were last installed these  on line.  Remember the plants didn't store any great amount of parts and neither did the stamping plants. They didn't keep parts just around

Knowing when the car was possibly built would help with the research and comparison

This is for the 65 the OP, not his 66. (he mentioned BOTH, but said the 66 did NOT have the holes)

Now, this begs the question: What was the projected build date on the 65 vert that belongs to Dan's wife?

Got it now  ::) thanks. Adjusted my post

My 65 SJ car has one hole, more toward the center, and date stamps on the strut rod braces.  No dates for the 64.5 braces ?  Brian

I have a Dearborn 1965 convertible that has one hole in the center like the SJ vert.  I'd still like to know the scheduled build date of this car.

I'm restoring a late January '66 fastback, NJ-built.  Has holes in both of the supports.

The double holes should be found on all 65 Mustangs up till around The middle of Febuary 65 if I recall correctly ( at least for Dearborn).

What is the scheduled build date for your car?
Scheduled build date is Oct 20 1964 (20K) which would make it an early 65 model so the theory of them using up 64.5 parts makes sense.

Thanks Jim. So what would I look for on the hood and headlight buckets? Are there other parts I should also check?
