decal kits for a June 69 Dearborn
« on: October 11, 2015, 09:09:35 PM »
Well I read all available posts regarding reproduction decals.  I found one re-occurring theme, do not buy the kits.  Unfortunately I purchased one of said kits from ECS.  My mistake for not doing my research ahead of time.  I read in most of the posts that the general consensus is that Tom at ECS provides some pretty accurate decals.  I spoke with Tom personally and he asked me several very detailed questions, I even sent him a copy of my marti report.  From the research I did this weekend I have discovered that a few of these decals don't apply to my car 69 Dearborn fastback early June build date.  There are several other ones that I have not figured out if in fact if they should be used for my application.  ECS does show on there website where most of the decals typically go but no indication of correct application for specific models.  I have one post that is very applicable for my application, thanks Jeff for taking the time to provide detailed photos in this post.  Well here are my basic questions that I have.
1.  Which cars in fact do get the caution fan decal, I know my application doesn't
2.  Could somebody be able to tell which decals included in the kit are not for my application
3.  If yes to #2 which would be more helpful a photo of the decals that came in my kit or a snapshot (from ECS website) of the decals they provide.

Thank you,

#2 most likely

#3 Would suggest you take your own picture rather than run the risk of the owner of the picture taking issue with using theirs  ;)

Here are some pics of the decals that came in the 69 decal kit.  This is for my 69 Dearborn car, hopefully you can make these out.  Let me know if I need to take any close ups.
Here is a list of the ones I know came on my car from one of Jeff's post and what I documented from my car.
1.  Service Recommendations (had original photos)
2.  Engine Emissions
3.  Battery Inspection
4.  Starting Instruction Sleeve
5.  Tire Pressure (had original photos)
6.  Vehicle Safety Act (had original photos)
7.  Jack Usagae (had original photos)

Thank you,

Looks like you've got allot of wire loom stickers - which means you've got some homework to do - not only identifying which wire loom they go on but where on the loom they were typically located. For some ESC has their suggested location. IMHO most if not all of the labels I've found were wrapped around the loom rather than applied like "flags"  onto the loom

A couple that I might leave off would be the following #15 and #16 since both would have been removed during dealer prep of the car. If a judge(s) are consistent  they would want to see a car presented at a show either as delivered to the first buyer or as it was when it arrived at the dealership - as if off the end of the line. IMHO a car presented half of each will motivate me to ask questions and purpose of the choices made by the owner or restorer.

#7 - Do you have a group 27 battery in that F code for some reason? That's the application that warranty tag is for

#11 - is for a Holley equipped car I believe with the big threaded end

Any engine ID decal?  Didn't see it mentioned

Hope this helps

That's allot of decals - have fun

Thanks guys for the input this helps a lot.  The Marti Report shows a heavy duty battery.  This car was shipped from Dearborn to North Dakota, the extreme cold is the only thing I can come up with.  It was also ordered with bumper guards.  The engine id decal (K280S) was incorrect according to all of the catalogues I've seen that sell them.  This should keep me busy for a while.

For a F code the HD battery might be a 24 since the standard is a 21  Just a thought

I've got build sheets with K281S (manual) &  K282S (auto)

That battery decal might just be one of the extras in the kit.  I wish I would have done some research before purchasing, that kit was spendy.  That K282S is the one I ordered for the 2V A/T.  I have most of my build sheet I will check and verify.

Thank you!

If it's of any use to you, I have a June '69 Dearborn F-code convertible that is still sporting the original wiring harness. A lot of the stickers are still present (maybe not pristine but they are there). I'd be happy to compare notes with you on any sticker locations, as I'm curious, too.

As an aside, do you happen to know where the underhood Service Specification decal was located on your car? Mine was on the passenger side shock tower, not the typical driver's side, and we discussed this in a thread here a couple of years ago. It seems there was a span of months in 1969 where this placement was common and yours may fit the profile.

Phil,

That sounds like a good plan, I will gather pics of remaining stickers on my harnesses.  Yes my service sticker was also on the passenger side shock tower.  I have photos indicating this.

Thank you,
