1969 S Code Mach 1 spare wheel info request
« on: September 30, 2015, 08:42:08 AM »
Hi all, I have a 1969 San Jose built S Code Mach 1. I am after info as to what type of spare wheel was included in this model, standard wheel or space saver.

The car is currently running with 15 inch Magnum 500s but I am not sure whether a 15 inch spare wheel will fit in the trunk because of the separation between the fold down seat and the trunk area. The previous owner put a 14 inch spare in there and it just fits but I am looking at changing it.

Thanks
Mark

Your car would have most likely come with 14 inch wheels. The 15 inch looks better IMHO but until they were repoed 25+ years ago they were nowhere to be found used. It has become a common personalized upgrade. The 69/70 Boss cars and Shelby's came with 15 wheels and all came with a 14 space saver spare. You don't want to store a full size spare in the trunk because the choices of tie size that will fit at all is very limited. You would not want to use a rare correct size SS spare but many find that a later model SS spare which is more common and less expensive works fine for a driver. Leave the correct SS for the show field.
