Early SJ -66 oddities?
« on: September 16, 2015, 03:50:32 PM »
Hi, I did an inspection for an insurance company on an early (September 65) SJ -66 GT Coupe - VIN 1114xx, yesterday. Insurance is for "historic vehicle".
It was a very nice car that had been repainted once and nothing appear to have happened to it otherwise - no body damage or so...looked as original paint in the engine compartment.

I noticed that the right front apron did not have any holes punched for the little rubber battery shield close to the positive battery post - would this be normal for an early SJ car like this?

Second, I saw that the horns were 65 style... they could of course have been changed anytime but fit right in with the rest of the "patina". What do you think - are they original to the car or have they been swapped at some point?
Thanks,
Claes

Yes, early '66 would have those items.

Not oddities just running changes - the battery shield method of attachment changed back and forth depending on the production period

Just for future reference, my Nov '65 SJ built '66 has the battery post shield stapled in.

My car was built 4 cars before poboy427's, and has wire staples. Ron
