Nut on starter stud - 67
« on: August 20, 2015, 12:30:35 PM »
I've repaired the buggered threads on my starter stud. Is the attaching nut copper, brass or steel? I have all three. Which would be correct 67 ?

I think the copper or brass would lower the chances of buggering the stud again.

It's a steel nut and steel washer. The original may be a nut with an attached external tooth lock washer like the one used at the solenoid but I have not found documentation to support that.

Jim thanks.

If someone chimes in on the external tooth washer I have that too.

Think you forgot to include what engine the car was - just in case it means a completely different answer might result in that little detail ;)

Looking at 6 cylinder application that year - thin steel nut with intergrated exterior toothed washer (star washer

Jeff : it's a 67 289.
Thanks

Checked and didn't have a nice clear picture of a 67 original - only NOS and service replacements :(

6 cylinder ones are so much easier to get pictures of on the car

Jeff, I think 6 cylinder starters are the same in this aspect.
