1968 Coupe - Parchment interior . question for Package tray
« on: August 17, 2015, 03:13:29 PM »
Folks,

PO had painted all the interior black (except for seats !) .. now that I have restored everything back to Parchment I have a question on the package tray.
What color should it have been (black? like the dash pad? or parchment like the rest of the interior ?)

thanks .....   I referred to another post here (can't find it for a 66 T-bird interior color chart) and they pointed to parchment ... wondering if it was the same for the 68 Coupe *Mustang.

thx
Ralph

Did you check the library section of this site under the     ConcoursMustang.com Official 68 Mustang Article List?

In an article covering 68 Paint Details you will find your answer ;)

Short answer - coupe package tray matches one of the interior colors (Medium) The descriptions can get a little repetitive and cryptic in some examples

I know this is an old topic but I could not find the info about the color of the package tray for 68. I have a nugget gold interior. I just removed the most incorrect package tray. The attached picture of the one I removed sure does look like it was black when you inspect the outer edges. But I seem to recall a an earlier post that the package tray could be the predominate color in my case I'm guess the gold. What should it be? Black of nugget gold?

I pulled out a thin black board out of my 68 parchment coupe. There was nothing else on it. I'll take another look in the assembly manual to see what else should be on it. Definitely wasn't painted parchment. But it could be missing something, or replaced.

Thank you very much Jeff for your follow up pictures.  It seems black is probably the way to go.  Since my dadpad is a dark brown,  though, would it be wrong to use that color for the package tray too? Or should I just paint it black?

Any color you want, as long as it's black. (H. Ford.)
For the first ten years of life of any car of that era, it was subjected to sunlight, and colors fade in sunlight. I found that the package tray on my 66 Hardtop was indeed black, at least around the edges. The replacement was painted semigloss black.

The package tray on 67-8 hard tops is most often painted the interior color. I have had many examples.

Do have pictures of package trays being the same color as the rest of the interior - may depend on what specific color the interior was and that is the reason I didn't post pictures of other interior colors

May be like 69 fastback fold down rear panels where they were painted to match the interior except when it was a white interior car

Wish I had more examples of this specific interior combination for coupes in 68 to confirm

I think you will discover that unrestored parchment Coupes in 67 and 68 will all have a black package tray.

I did not say that they were not black, I just want to suggest that MOST had the interior color.  :)

I just received my package tray from NPD. I'm not sure though which side is the side that is up and gets the paint. There is a rough side and smooth side. Which is the exposed up side?
