67 390 intake manifold
« on: August 14, 2015, 12:45:27 AM »
Was there more than one intake used in 67 for the 390 GT ? Also what was the significance of the big "S" and was there a small "S".

Not from the factory that I know of/recall

Something in house at the foundry. Don't recall every seeing or hearing of a "small S" intake or anyone referring to one for 67

Would C7AE-E be correct for 67 then, thanks. Its tough even with something like the intake to get accurate information. There's an older booklet some here may know called "The ford high performance parts identifier" written by Robert M. Winkelman from 1988 that lists all of the hipo engines and their major parts and  for 390 GT 66-68 it calls for a C6AE-E cast iron   Large "S" cast in area of casting number. My C7AE-E has a smaller S than the large S that I have seen but didn't pay attention to the casting numbers.

I have a parts engine from a '67 GT that has a C7AE-E manifold, dated 7C2. It has an "S" - is it "big" or "small"? You make the call.  ;)

In the days before EBAY it was not uncommon to see one of the "S" intakes leaned up against a trash can. I don't know how many times I have seen a vendor bring a 390 cast iron intake to try and sell and if they didn't by the time they were going home would leave it rather then carry that heavy part back home. A little easier to sell to the right person but so heavy it is a big hassle. Don't see it much anymore but fewer swap meets too.

Big since its twice the size (or more) than the engineering fonts
