Do the backing plates adjustment slot take any rubber plug or were they specific  for year or for a 9'' axle.

IMHO not all of the backing plates had the "knock out", knocked out but if they were, the rubber plug could be one of two (flat and smooth or the one with the number) depending on who made the backing plate.

If the knock outs were done at the dealership then the ones with the numbers were the ones Ford normally supplied to the service areas for this purpose.

Time to check your backing plates for the markers markings

KH were typically the flat smooth with cross hatch texture and the Bendix backing plates were the 8A raised letter/number ones.

Would this fit the bill in any way? two of these were on the backing plates.
