'66 original style dual exhaust installation
« on: July 18, 2015, 07:20:20 PM »
I'm installing a stock style dual exhaust system on an original, stock '66 GT.  After installing the H pipe to the original exhaust manifolds, it ends up not centered... a little closer to the driver's side floor pan than the passenger's...Before I try to modify it to be exactly centered, I was wondering if this may be how the original system installed, as opposed to being perfectly centered to the tunnel.  It is, of course, almost impossible to find a picture of an original, factory installed system.  I don't want to spend the time and effort to modify the H pipe to be centered if it wasn't originally any way.  The car has not been modified in any way, and has the original exhaust manifolds, as I said.

How much closer? When you install the intermediate pipes and muffler to the car will it make a difference? Can you "adjust" the intermediate pipes to compensate for the "H" pipe? In other word, can you make it work? The manifolds are the same for "C" and "A" code cars, so your problem is the pipe.

::)  Not that we can do the impossible

First example I ran across in my pictures. Hope it helps - the H pipe is somewhat center (has to be to aim its way through on a convertible)  but not exactly

I should be able to adjust it with the intermediate pipes, I just would rather start with the H pipe already centered.  It's a relatively inexpensive repro system, so I suppose it's what I paid for, which is OK.  I was just curious if the h pipe ends should be centered to begin with.

Picture helps...as usual...thanks.  I'm not too far off from what the picture shows, so I won't try to make it perfectly centered.
