First welcome to the site. Hope that the information and help here are useful in your restoration projects and endeavours
I found a few factory markings that I would love some help on to further along my restoration process.
This is for a 1968 C code with a C4 auto from the San Jose plant, 01B for the build date.
The rear diff tag is stamped WCZ-V1 2.79
I was looking for some help with the driveshaft factory markings (pink, light blue, white?)
What sort of help do you need here. They were marked with a brush and the driveline was rotated. You will find (using the search) some prior threads on how others have reproduced and fixtures to help apply them that the members have made. Stripes went all the way around the tube
Not sure if you have found it already (lots of reading to do to catch up
but there is an article in the Library - Paint Marks - The Basics that may help. Not meant as a specific guide but as an oversight and help on the subject
Also curious about the RA1(?) marked on the pumpkin
Currently we don't understand the reasoning for every mark and with the decline of the number of workers still around we may never know them all but the focus is to reproduce what we find and not always apply the same markings to other cars.
The markings on the bottom of the rear end case/housing was something that came into practice during 67 production from what I've seen and documented. It normally included a series of numbers and letters but I have not found a worker who could explain (it would likely need to be a Sterling worker) the markings or anyone that has decoded them. Normally they are in poor condition due to jack usage and running over things it seems
with an “8” to denote the 8” gears?
May be for that purpose, though other 3rd members (other sizes) were not typically marked to identify them. A similar mark has been documented on others from other years but not every year
Again welcome to the site
