Door VIN tag color question
« on: May 10, 2010, 02:27:14 AM »
What color should the door vin/data tag be? What factors determine the color: Dearborn, SJ, Metuchen, etc.?

Thanks,
Rick

Rick - having some issues with my main computer which makes it difficult for me, at the moment, to go through all my pictures for a survey.

Will look once I get back in

Jeff,

So far (from the Boss forum) have 'framed' the tag background color change (based on unrestored cars) between April and June. ECS Automotive has Ford documentation indicated March 10, 1970 as the 'official' production line change order date.
I'd be interested to know what you find on car build dates versus tag color.
Thanks.

Have you asked Kevin for an explanation?  I'm sure he has done research on the topic and would most likely share why he chooses one or the other when making a replacement.

Just realized my original post wasn't clear at all. White background up til, rougly March - June time frame where tag color was changed to light blue.

I think light blue too but when I asked an employee at Marti they said either color even on a June 1970 build vert...

1970 Mach 1 / Dearborn - Bucked 3/13, built 3/18, original paint, original white door Vin sticker. Not sure how to post a pic or I would attach a pic for reference.

White for a March build is consistent with what I have seen. The production tag (Engineering Change Order) was March 10, 1970 but I am sure there were plenty of blank white tags in inventory that had to be used up before the blue ones made it onto the assembly line.
