Topic: Paint marks on '67 front suspension

Car details are in my signature.  I have removed all of the steering and front suspension on my Dec '66 built '67 Mustang from San Jose.  I have started cleaning up the spindles and have found what appears to be a small white dot by the lower ball joint hole for the RH side.  On the left there was a white line half way between the lower ball joint and the tie rod mounting holes.  It also appears that their is some kind of shadow from a mark in the middle of where the hardness was tested.  Is this consistent with what others have found for this plant and time?  Is their other marks I should be looking for?  What about the rest of the steering and suspension?  Yellow marks on idler arm and pitman arm?  Also saw in a previous post by Jeff S of an original car the their was what appeared to be red paint on the lower ball joint stud.  Is this normal?  I have also seen yellow paint as well, but not sure if this is factory or NOS.  This is a lot of questions, but any advice would be helpful.  Thanks, John

I see from you signature your workin with a A code, AC, PS, P disc brake San Jose  car

White dot - Likely was one of these really small daubs on the other spindle originally also. Have seen other colors used - possible for different applications that year

Normally find a fairly large color area or the remainders of that mark on the steering arm - sometimes multiple colors in that area. Never seen a paint mark over the hardness test - sometimes a thin almost marker like one near by in other years




 

Is their other marks I should be looking for?

Everywhere  - though most marks are fairly consistent in their application and location new/different ones are found on individual cars.

What about the rest of the steering and suspension? 

For your year. plant and application - Multiple marks on the spindles (up to half dozen each) Ball joint studs, center link, pittman & idler arms, front & rear shocks, front & rear springs...

Yellow marks on idler arm and pitman arm?

If its a 67 power steering equipped V8 - if not - no

NOS upper and A arm ball joints typically had yellow ball joint studs. Have seen many more (65-70) with yellow than the red. The red was from a 67 San Jose car in in the 153xxx's so apparently at least durign that plant and period red may have been used
