67 console install

  Thinking of installing a factory console in my 67, anyone have a list of all the parts I will need? My car is a non-console car so I need everything. Questions I have are...

1. What parts are needed to do a factory correct install?
2. Are all the parts available / reproduced? I see California Mustang has a kit, does it have everything needed?

There are two variations of a 67 console, one with the safety convenience lights and one without. Based on a console project I did several years back, don't bother with the safety convenience lights. Most of what you are looking for is covered in the 67 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual, the actual console installation including the radio. The drawing depict the wiring, brackets and hardware.The console itself is "relatively" simple, shell, trim panels and hardware.

Let me revise my original reply, the console housing for 1967 is the same for both standard and with the safety convenience group. The associated panels and wiring are different, but, like the shifter panel, are separately installed.
Don't forget the factory A/C vs. non factory A/C type, making for a total of four variations in 67.
If you would, refresh my memory on this. I know of six different housings for 64-66 (A/C, A/C for convertible, full early, full early for convertible, full late, full late for convertible), but the 67 housing seems to be the same for all.

It is more like this:
Plastic base (besides different colors) was trimmed for manual trans, trimmed for Select-Air Conditioning and trimmed for convertibles. I have seen a very short version for a dealer-installed air conditioning but looked rather hokey to me.
Console top plate was different between  the manual trans and auto trans consoles. (top plate between seats), obviously, different shifter plates for manual or automatic, & different radio plate for with or without Convenience group.
Everything else is the same. (wiring/lamps/hardware)
Automatic trans shifter assembly is different if changing from non-console to a console and you will need the complete shifter lamp housing for console type along with the plastic connecting rod for the shifter light. You need the dome light feed wire that runs under the carpeting and you will need the 3-piece radio/front console bracket set to install a console into a non-console car.

Richard, nice job in summarizing it.  The key is that the plastic base can be trimmed for AC, manual, or convertible, but it's hard to put humpty back together.  When buying used, you need to know what you are getting.

Just saw this....

Different consoles trimmed for Select-Air Conditioning and trimmed for convertibles 1967 (A/T) (None Convinience Group)

Does anyone has pictures to be posted?
I'm interested in how a console Convertible with Air Conditioning should look like, especially plastic shape driver side (cut, none cut?)

And which version is this one:

That one is trimmed for factory A/C because it is cut vertically below the dash to make room for the A/C floor diffuser assembly.  If you look at the attached diagram I drew a line that shows the area cut off.

I don't have memorized the differences in profile where it meets the floor to say whether this is for a convertible or not.

Ford serviced all of these with a single part (in multiple colors).

Also looking at the one in your picture, and referring to the attached modified picture, the windlace identified by the red arrow is correct.  However, there should be no windlace in the areas shown in blue.

Also since you don't have the holes in the face of part 04567 (referring to the previous post diagram) this is not configured for the convenience control option.

Hi John, Thx for clarification.

In my car I have a console and factory Air Conditioning.

However, the part is not cut on the driver side like the one shown above. This evening I'll make a pic.


Additionally, on the above part it seems there are 2 holes drilled in plastic surface. Don't know for what reason?

Here a detail (no better available).

And how to repair such things best?

Those holes are behind the ashtray because your console base is a 68. The holes were used to attach the pad. You could fill them with a epoxy like JB weld.

To the original poster (34isgreat) The reproductions are very nice but are not totally complete if you are adding a console to a automatic equipped Mustang. I may have missed it but I did not see a body style or transmission type. The repro consoles are made for coupe / fastback and the base will need to be modified to fit a convertible which is not a big deal. The repro does not come with a shifter assembly which is specific to a console equipped car. I would suggest finding a used console shifter assembly rather than a repro. This only applies to a automatic transmission equipped car of course. If your Mustang is a manual transmission, it is basically a plug and play installation and is complete. Hope this helps.  Paul
