Topic: 66 seat belts

I've just looked at my single year 1965 Ford Parts and Accessories Catalog publication date January 1965 page 612 section 611A06. It shows Retractor Kit- Front Seat Belt part# C4AZ-62611A06-A Rotunda Sales No. R51-AJ consists of 2-Retractors,2 Stops,1 Instruction Sheet No. 1206. for Ford vehicles A=Galaxie ,B=Fairlane Series, X=Falcon, and F=Mustang Series. This information isn't being provided from a aftermarket book. This is Ford's information from 1965.

OK.... Debates on clip-ons aside...

Did all 66 deluxe belt hardtops use this style of front seatbelt?



I need to buy belts for a 66 deluxe interior car and have come down to the choice of this:



or this:



Which is closer to factory? (and yes, neither is concours correct but the owners budget does not allow restoring OEM, and they would like something "close" to the original look)

If anyone can clarify it would be appreciated.

All of the 1966 Deluxe seat belts that I've seen appear like the one in your first picture. ( Red belt) Correction the instruction sheet that I have for the clip on rectractors shows that they were used through the 1967 model year not 1968.

Yes, A lot of '65/'66 Mustang Convertibles used the FOMOCO, or ROTUNDA marked Clip-On retractors, because they were the ONLY retractors available in use for convertibles at the time...so it was pretty normal to see them.

Your first picture of the Repro Belt is closer to the Original Deluxe Belts.   Question: Which vendor are you going with for the belts??

Which vendor or which manufacturer?  I am only aware of the (gulp) Drake "star button" repros as a budget option for the owner...

NPD does not carry them so looking at CJ Pony if no one locally can provide them at a competitive cost. Some vendors here seem to set prices by looking at US retail, adding air fright, then adding a few more dollars tot he price....

COSTING WISE, its closer to the point to say Australian suppliers double the usa catalogue price and then add 10/15%. just incase.  hehehe

Hence why more and more Australian buyers are going direct with USA suppliers and not buying from local vendors any more.

A bit of irony, there is an Outback Steakhouse at the site of the San Jose Ford assembly plant in Milpitas, CA. Family members took me there for a birthday dinner a few years back. All I can say, it is a steakhouse, with a boomerang or two on the wall. It's probably too "Americanized".

Hey, I saw that Summit was selling these pretty cheap.  They are Scott Drake.  They are the NON-Retractors.... But if you can't get originals....They are pretty close to 1966-1967 Deluxe Ford Belts.  They sell a bunch of colors too.  Just a "Head's Up".

I saw those too.  I thought about buying a set just to use in my car while I have the originals belts out to be restored.  Can't beat those for the price; that's about what most vendors used to charge for those ugly universal belts.
