Topic: coil spring cover date codes

Picked up these coil spring covers that look and feel like NOS considering a side by side comparison with originals.  How about some help with the date codes?  Originals were stamped from the back side so these are probably 80s-90s variety. Thanks

Will have to look through allot of pictures but wanted to start out sharing that 69 & 70 I have were stamped (your terms) from the outside in on the outer section of metal. First ones I pulled up were stamped horizontally rather than (like your example) vertically

Vast majority of originals are stamped on face but occaisionally will be stamped on back

Just adding another data point.  The originals from my car were stamped on the inside and the outside...

D/S Outer: 8 19 D2 = August 19, 1966 - Dearborn, MI / 2nd Shift
D/S Inner: 8 26 2D = August 26, 1966 - 2nd Shift / Dearborn, MI
P/S Outer: 7 20 D3 = July 20, 1966 - Dearborn, MI / 3rd Shift
P/S Inner: 8 26 2D = August 26, 1966 - 2nd Shift / Dearborn, MI

The stamping pattern - with or without the stamping plant initial - will depend on year and time period like some of the other stamped steel pieces found on these cars.

I guess I should clarify my "from the inside" term.  At first glance on mine (from signature line), referring to the first picture, I noted that the letter "D" of "17 30D3" was backward.  Since I focused on the "D" my brain logged this as having the sequence stamped from the "inside out".  But now looking at the stamping again it was just one character that was flopped over.    There are true cases of this, such as the frame rails. When viewed from the bottom of the car, it was stamped from the inside.

So I stand corrected, but wonder why the flop.

Also in picture 2 I can concur that the inner sheet metal was also date stamped, so the welded assembly has at least two stamps.

Just something that happened IMHO likely just a worker placing the stamping plant in the date holder incorrectly  in the large press. You see/find this every so often when the operator was not paying attention and no one catches it before they stamp a few hundred panels/parts out
