68 Small Block P/S Pump Hose Index Bracket
« on: June 08, 2015, 08:31:43 AM »
Split from another related thread

I meant that by application - you'll need to make sure the one you purchase matches your application. Not (for example) a 68 390 or a 6 cylinder .......They may look similar but not be correct

do you have a picture of this bracket in a 68 289 ?

Not a good clear shot of one on the pump or off from the rear but at least a little of the details. Examples range across the production year and from four different cars.

Will be a bent L shaped connecting the top hose index area shown in the pictures, down to the rear pump output hose connection, then up to the long power steering bracket attachment point at the head. Picture #3 shows the upper two connection points. Hope this helps

Different application - bracket shaped differently than the one for your car but picture should give you an idea of where and how the bracket attaches

I believe since the pressure hose routing is GOING DOWNWARDS, this is for another application, NOT same as for your 68 289.

i think this is the bracket we trying to show ...

looks correct, thanks, I am sure it will help others ;)

ANOTHER NOTE: While we are on this subject, a 2nd thin nut hold this bracket into place. Notice in Jeff's picture above, there is a space between the pump reservoir and the bracket AND there is a thin nut holding this bracket onto the pump. What is hidden from sight, but clearly is THERE, is another thin nut much like the one you clearly see. The "hidden nut" holds the reservoir and the I.D. tag on and needs to be tight enough to prevent seaping of PS fluid (compresses a seal behind [internal of] the reservoir)

Hope that helps. This holds true with all such Ford & TRW pumps used by Ford on several applications, not just the one discussed here.
