70 351-2v Engine ID Decal Number
« on: June 06, 2015, 12:02:46 PM »
Morning,

I have a 1970 Mach 1, 351W-2v, manual, no PS.  Built at Dearborn on 09/24/69.  I don't have the engine tag or the build sheet.  Does anyone have an idea of what the engine decal number should be?  The parts houses show K207A, but I'm wondering if the 'A' on the end means automatic transmission.  I've looked through this site, but he just has them listed by engine, no additional details.  Thank you!

According to Kevin Marti's Book, Mustang and Cougar Tag Book, the code is 202 for manual transmission on a Cougar or Mustang in 1969 with 351W-2V.

Thank you Scott.  Any idea if the code is the same for the 70 model year?  Does the tag book give information on the rest of what is on that decal?  What the K stands for and what the A stands for?

Closest I got (from a buildsheet) unfortunately is a H code auto with PS and AC :(

For others that may follow - for that application the code is K203A

And no the A is not related to the transmission

Will check elsewhere and post back if I find something

Oops, Sorry, my bad. for 1970 the engine code could be either 200 or 202. Per the Tag Book for 1970 with standard transmission.

According to Kevin Marti, a 'K' prefix for 1970, means 'non-thermactor'. The suffix letter at the end is a change level.

Guess we're going to tag team this one  ;)

Did find another buildsheet - H code 3 speed unfortunately it does not list options (bottom of page gone.

June 17th projected build date and it has a 200A  (first letter cut off also in someone scan) very likely IMHO K is already mentioned

Reincarnating a topic, but oh well.
So a 70 A/C car but the tag is K203A, not K203AG? Every 70 A/C  engine tag code I've seen ends in G.
A 70 351W manual should be K200A or K200AG if factory A/C

Just for grins I looked at the MPC and it provides the following (limited) information.  Has anyone looked at the Ford shop manual?  I don't have a copy of the 1970 version.

Edit - looks like the source for the table on the Fordification site:

I have a 1970 Cougar build sheet. Early H code, FMX, no A/C, engine code K203A.
