Coil Bracket

Is this coil bracket specific to a time frame or an engine ?  Thank you.  Brian

It was first used in 68. I am not sure for how long after 68. The angle cut on is there to give clearance on the RH side of the manifold where it was mounted.

The locating hole in the bracket typically indicates that it is a 64/65 vintage. The coil would have a raised bump to orient the coil properly in the bracket. That type of coil was not used after 1965 .I believe the brackets with the holes were still used even after the coils were changed but were phased out in the early 66 production.

Per Mannel (pg 6-30 fig c), intake manifold or cylinder head. If the notch is on the other side, it's cylinder head only.

Pulled that exact bracket off of a 260 out of a 64 1/2 coupe.  It was located on the intake manifold.
65 Dearborn Built Fastback
Approximate Build Date, September 2, 1964

Thanks fellas.  What I think I have learned ?  The angle cut to the bracket indicates for use on an FE intake manifold.  The FE intakes are indexed so the coil in this bracket is parallel to the left valve cover.  The hole indicates it was for use with a 64-65 coil.  So not for a Mustang ?  Brian

My previous Dearborn '65 Coupe with 289, looking at photos I took, had the notch reversed and was mounted on the Cylinder Head; no Locating Hole in the bracket.

The coil bracket on my 65 GT; is mounted to the R. head, has the angle cut on the downward side and has no hole in the front.  So a guess would be that the dimpled/indexed coil was no longer in use ?  Brian

Would not go that far IMHO  but rather not a normal feature seen the majority of very early cars.

Do have some pictures from 65 with a bracket with that hole. Believe that there is at least one prior discussion of these brackets in the 65-66 Section of the site.

Comes up fairly often on any number of sites - but as mention, not typical or normal
