Hood molding on the earlier 65 models.

Hi everybody,

I have a question concerning hood moldings on the earlier 65 models.
Do you know since when that trim was added on the front of the hood ?
My car was built the 25 th september 1964 and, the hood seems
to be the original one and there is some little holes drilled on it to receive the molding.
But I have a doubt, because I also saw some stangs built in October 1964 without that part ??

It is my understanding that the hood lip molding was introduced around March 1965 with the introduction of the 1965 GT Mustangs.

The Hood, original, on my current Dearborn project has the Trim Holes,(unused); estimated Build Date January 23 with Date Stamp of Jan 13.

It was an option for certain '65's that I believe became standard on the '66 Mustangs, though I don't know if that was true for all '66 Models.

The hood trim was standard as part of the GT option, and "may" have been available on special order. It was standard on all 66 Mustangs. Shelby was always an exception.

In my case, you think my car got that molding in it's past life ? it's possible ?
Or the trim holes were drilled on all mustang hoods ?

Don't believe it would have been something that a dealer or factory would do under the "special order" system. Too much paperwork and hassle. At best case something that may/could have been done by the dealer after the car arrived at the dealership - after the part was available through the parts system. So after (by 30-60 days) after the GT option would have been available.  So don't see how an early 65 owner could make much of a case to include it as being "stock" or factory on one of those cars

Sort of the same principle we see applied with the rear slats and spoilers used on Boss 302's and so many Mach I owners like to add   ::)

Thank You for your help,

I think the first owner added that part few month later the car came in France.
Yesterday, I saw holes under the hood and, they seem not correctly drilled with
the new trim molding.

I put some pictures in attached quote...
