69 shelby grill
« on: May 01, 2010, 12:25:52 PM »
my understanding is that the 69 shelby grill was painted gray while attched to the front end, thus leaving the 2 upper attachment bolts gray. Now what color are the 4 rear lower attachment bolts suppossed to be? P&O solid gray or overspray gray.

The stone guard was in place as well as the four grill to stone guard mounting bolts so all would have either allot of overspray - more on the front, top and side surfaces than the rear (from the painting of the stone guard, grill and other painting) or a nice even coat depending on the efforts of the painter

Almost have a front end assembled on a jig just for this purpose ;)

Sorry, I can't help with a exact color formula. Even if I had a formula for it when it became translated into today's materials it may not be the same shade .I had had that problem with current formulas for a Shelby Yellow on a 69 Shelby I am working on . The paint made up from the formula does not match the paint on the car or color chip. I had to resort to tinting the paint formula to match a 1969 Ford color chip book.  I have color matched Shelby headlight buckets and foglight panels that are known originals. The closest color and I mean very very close is the gray that is used on the 70 Mach I  side mouldings. Almost identical. I would go with that.

Were the bumper shield strips on the stone deflector/fog lamp support at the time the dark argent color was applied? Did they get painted as well?

I got a little angry when I read your post.

Concours venues have turned into a dumpster fire.

The bad news is they don?t want to reform and they cutting their own throats. Politics and petty fueds are the standard of the day.

Any judge that made a comment like that should be removed or suspended

I encourage everyone to think twice about submitting yourself to concours judging

I agree that the language was not appropriate at all, even if it was meant between friends It should have not been said that way.  I'm sorry to hear about this. This kind of thing is not acceptable and reminded frequently as do's and don'ts in judges meeting's. I had a talk with the offending judge back when it happened and I hope it made a difference.

Wow - totally unacceptable. Firstly, as I've stated to others and during judging training a decade or more ago. The thought, fashioned in that way, should never appear in your mind and if it did should NEVER reach your lips.  Sometimes people forget that everyone is an example - ALL THE TIME - what you do tell other if your a good example or a bad one.

One reason training of judges is just as important as their knowledge of the cars and needs to be continuous.

Hopefully you got an apology from the person, the team Captain or someone in the team on the spot!

At this point please accept my I apologize on behalf of all judges.

 Jeff, Bob , Pete,
Thank you for the comments and the support,,, I appreciate  it very much.
I can take the comments and the negative stuff fairly well,,  I have been around awhile  doing this , I know the drama that comes along with  the judging ,,,  I understand the judging , i have been on the other side,  The big  concern was it said  while standing in front of the owner of the car,  it made the owner question why we are doing this . We were both taken back by several of the comments,, Im glad the owner of the car  was very understanding ,,,,,
Pete,,,,, I agree with you ,,,,
Bob ,,, I was not aware that you knew about the comments, thank you for saying something, pretty sure that somone else would have not like that too much ,,  ,,,
Jeff,,,, Thank you for you message,,,
       thank you ,,,,, Bob Wilson
