Fan Shroud Screws - Sj Oct 64
« on: May 13, 2015, 10:44:38 PM »
Just want to confirm that the fan shroud screws should be a flat tip and not pointed and that there is no head markings on the screw.  AMK sells 40927-S (B-13295) but it has no head marking on it...

As I often try to do - I'll let the pictures tell the tale.

Sorry they aren't a little clearer - but can't be wiping and cleaning other peoples cars at shows and such ;)

Looks like a mark - in at least one case the dot and on a couple of others a small marking of some undescribed design

Hope it helps

Thanks Jeff for the pics.  I don't know if it is the closeness of the pics but the size of the bolt looks bigger than a 3/8 head.  Can someone confirm what size it should be...I'm looking at the excel spreadsheet and it says TO 374803-S32,SEE 40927-S2/8.  AMK lists 40927 as 1/4-20 x 1/2  3/8 AF.

I've enclosed a picture of the head of the bolt.  It is a 3/8 size.

Rich I take it the bolt is from a Dearborn car - Correct?

Jeff,
I don't know what car it came off of.  I've scrounged parts for too many years and too many cars to keep track of their origination.

Just looking at your list of cars I was guessing.

Sort of like my tubs of bolts - if its 65-68 its likely San Jose sources. If 69 or 70 it could be San Jose or Dearborn  :D

interesting.  that is NOT AT ALL like the bolts that are supplied by vendors when you get the brackets for the shroud.  Does AMK produce an accurate repro?  The sheet metal screws I just put in mine (supplied) don't seem to hold too well

The screws that I got are the same ones that hold the starter solenoid with the little D in the middle (31498-S8), yet I got marked down because they are not flat tipped.  But if you pull up the hardware spreadsheet in the other section and search for fan shroud it has several screws listed for it... AMK does sell 40927-S which has a flat tip and is 3/8 head but no head marking.  It is also noted on one of the entries for the fan shroud it has 1/4-20X1/2HH,REC,FLNG 1/2,1/2HEX,THD FRM for FAN SHROUD-MOUNTING BRACKET@RADIATOR,289 W A/C.  I'm confused since that says it should be a 1/2 inch head....

And 40927-S was corrected in my master list a couple of days ago to 3/8 hex when I preformed the simple task of measuring mine. The AMK Guide To Ford Fasteners does not indicate drive size, but the 2014 catalog does. I'll also include "blunt" as part of the description.
This is an ongoing project and I appreciate anyone pointing out inconsistencies like this one. Now, find the other one -  ;)

Ok one last question, finish on this should be zinc or phosphate?  Looks like phosphate in the pics...
