Swap '65-66 Vent Window Assembly into '67 coupe?
« on: May 12, 2015, 09:45:29 AM »
I have a '67 coupe, built in December 1966 at Metuchen.  A while back, I had the driver's side door panel off and noticed that the vent window assembly had been replaced.  It had that yellow paint pen marking that lots of junkyards do when they sell used parts.  I've always had an issue with the vent window assembly not lining up well with the roof rail weatherstrip (air leaks), and the door window is pretty tough to roll up and down.

Is it possible someone swapped a '65-66 vent window assembly into this car?  I've been working on getting the windows to line up better with the weatherstrip, and now wonder if this could have been my problem all along.  Will a '65-66 unit even fit into a '67?  And is there some way to tell what year assembly I have now?  The vent windows on both sides still have their Carlite etchings, but I don't know if they're still good enough to make out the date codes.  I know '67 was a weird year, with lots of parts being phased in and phased out during the production run.

I will say that the driver's side, which has the paint pen marking and has probably been replaced, has a vent window handle like this:

The passenger's side, which to my knowledge is original to the car, has a handle like this:

Too much junk, too little time.

The 65 and 66 vent window assembles are a different design than 67-68.  They will have a C4ZB casting number.  The 67-8 have a C7ZB casting number.

Thanks, Charles.  I'll have to pop the door panels off and see what's been done.  Looking at the rest of the car, I wouldn't be at all surprised if somebody tried to make a '65-66 assembly work.
