64 Grill Color
« on: May 03, 2015, 12:10:12 PM »
I have seen too many confusing answers to the question "the correct grill color for a 64.5".
It is a June 2 Dearborn build, 289 D, Prairie Bronze convertible.
I know the descriptions of the "silver" or "argent" or "blueish gray", etc. color, but that is like saying 'sky blue'.
Can anyone direct me to a part # from NPD or other supplier that will be concourse?
Thanks.

I read the NPD page and it is confusing. The most correct color is the Charcoal-Blue, NPD AP-GPB, the Argent, T-19000-1, is the color for the two trim "hockey sticks" that surround the Pony/Corral.

Thank you very much.
I too was confused by NPD's page.
I'll give the charcoal-blue a try.

I thought I got the correct grille color, but it sure looks blue to me.  See photo of repainted OE grille and aftermarket which is black and wrong color as well.

Get the grille paint that NPD sells.  It's color matched from original paint.

Old thread but same question I am facing now. My 64.5 is a July 9th build date.  I'm trying to figure out if it should have the grille painted in the Gunmetal Blue grille paint from NPD or if it should be a lighter color for that date. What build date is your car and what did you end up with for a color? I've got the NPD  paint on its way but I don't want to use it if it should be something different. I'd appreciate hearing what you ended up with or other comments.

Thanks.

I got my grill taken off and painted a few weeks ago. The photo shows an area with the black paint still on it, an area where the original paint was exposed and a section with the new paint applied. The new paint's color is lighter and brighter than the original on the solid areas but looks closer on the grill area. The overall effect looks close to what i've seen in old photos but I have to say, I remember now why I painted it black 45 years ago. I like having it closer to original though so i guess this how it will stay.

Is the the correct NPD paint the AP-GPB ?  Was the 1964 1/2 grill color the same as the 1965?
