68 289 timing cover bolt location help !!

hi,

i need to put back my timing cover on my 68 289 engine. This is my first rebuilt !! In the kit from AMK i have 1 long bolt, 5 medium bolt and 1 little bolt ! I know to of the medium bolt go on the top on the cover but where go the others ! I have 4 holes on the bottom of the cover , 2 each side and only have one long bolt for this holes ! Can someone show me where all the bolts go please ! Picture ! diagram ! anything that can help me !

The AMK kits that I have used came with a diagram.

The AMK kits that I have used came with a diagram.

Yes they give the diagram for the water pump not for the timing cover !!

thanks Jim put i have already this !!

I attache a picture, i talk about the 4 holes on the bottom of the cover, 2 on each side of the hole for the harmonic...i thinks 2 of them are for alternator bracket but what kind of bolt i need ??

The picture its not mine, just for info !!

The oil pan with  4, 5/16 x 18, bolts.  Brian

oki sorry maybe i am not descript right ! The 3 gold/silver bolt and the black bolt already there ! something else suppose to go with this bolt or only stay like this ?

There shouldn't be anything else attached with those bolts...The alternator bracket you spoke of before attaches to the water pump...At least on a 65 Mustang that is how it is done.  I don't think there was too much of a change from 65 to 68 on how things bolted...

No, they attach the timing cover to the engine only. The alternator fixed and adjustable brackets attach to the water pump.
See the library section, open topic : Mustang Hardware Spreadsheets 67-68, download file MHW67-68AP01, scroll down to "ENGINE, TIMING COVER - " and you will find the information you need. The hardware listed in this case are service parts but they seem to match the factory installed hardware. In your picture, the bolt on the RH side appears to be correct, the other three appear to be an auto parts store replacement (Dorman?). They lack the "recess" in the head that most Ford bolts used.

yes i buy a timing cover bolt kit and they give only one black bolt ( one at the right ) !! So i buy somes bolts at a hardware shop !
