66 Wiper arm and pivot finish
« on: April 09, 2015, 11:20:32 AM »
For a Dearborn December 1965 build, should the wiper arm and pivot be flat/satin or bright/shiny? I have seen an original October Metuchen build and its arms and pivots are bright.  What is the approximate change-over from bright to satin?  Thanks

I think the change over from bright/shiny to satin/flat took place during the 1966 model year. It was found that the 1965 bright/ shiny would cause glare in the drivers eyes if the sun hit it a certain way.

By mid way thru 66 production would expect that they be satin in finish

+1 I can personally vouch for the glare from the sun (as my '65 has the shiny ones)

It sounds like December 1965 could have gone either with the old shiny or the new satin.  I will just try to find the best ones I can. Thanks for the input.

Not sure where in the discussion you picked that up from.

December would be half the way through production for the year.

Given time I'm sure we could come up with examples suggesting a possible change point - but don't see anything that suggest that December is that point of change

I don't think that December is half way through the production year.

Looking at production when (what date) would you place the half way point?

If you use just production days then Dearborn mid point is 28th of Feb but if you look at sales and actual production I would guess that half way was earlier than that date

NJ production days mid would be  Feb 5th & San Jose production mid point would be Feb 9th. If the start and end dates in the Mustang Production Guide are correct - and my math  ::)

Of course we're working with just the month of December could be early or late in the month ;)

I would have thought that production would begin in August of 1965 with sales to the public in September 1965. This would make December 1965 1/3 of the year.

Since we're discussion production when they went up for sale would IMHO make no difference. This would place Dec in the mid 1/3rd of the production year following that trend

In any case surely it is always best of for us to reference the month of production rather than a range for better answers and research

Jeff the initial post states the car was a December built car. The month of production was referenced, you even reference it in one of your replies.

Yes not sure what your referring to but at this point believe we gotten well off the beaten path and will leave the discussion with the conclusion that we have a difference of opinion :) As its not bring any subsidence to the original post

Jeff can you post pictures of the stainless steel/ chrome refill holder versus the satin/dull refill holders used during the 1966 time period?
