69 Sportsroof TQ Boxes
« on: April 02, 2015, 02:07:47 PM »
I need a little help on something I've searched all over and can't find. I am installing my Dynocore TQ Boxes to day an I have them in place where they need to be however, the 3rd triangle piece is obviously to far forward to plug weld to the tq box. It's the same way on both sides. The triangle piece are still orginal, I didn't remove them but they don't match up. I am going to remove them an install the new ones, but I am just curious if anyone has experienced this? The end that mates up to the rocker flange mates perfect, so in my non professional opinion, the tq box can't be to far forward. Thanks for any help.

The car and it's original welded in parts are the fixture as long as you are not repairing collision damage in that area. The photo looks like the original spot welds on the frame rail are also indicating the torque box is too far back. I would fit the panel to the original location as much as possible. You are probably correct in saying it's the difference from aftermarket to original. If you had an used torque from another car or an NOS part it should all line up to the original spot welds. Another thing I noticed in your photo is the jack stand is under the frame rail. I would place it under the lower control arm especially if the drivetrain is still installed, as this could cause a twist in the unibody. Always install welded in parts with the vehicle resting on the suspension. A perfect example of the twist that is put on a unibody car is try opening the door on a car on a lift with the suspension hanging. The door will jump open as the car is on a twist. I hope this makes sense and helps...Good luck to you!

Cobrajetchris thanks for all the input, yes the drive train is out an I do also have jack stands under near the suspension up front, I just had that one there for extra support. The door open an shuts good. I think the tq boxes turned out pretty good, now for the toe board. Once again, thanks!

Also I know you can see the top of the inner tq box in the driver side picture, but I don't have them welded in, they are just sitting in there. I'm waiting for the toe board before I weld them in place.
