First off I would install the moldings after the car is painted so the lower part of the car gets paint coverage, I am sure your paint shop will tell you the same thing. The installation of the fender, qtr. and door moldings are installed with metal t-bolt type fasteners that nut on the back of the panels. The rocker moldings have a retaining strip that is pop riveted to the upper edge of the rocker panel and the molding slips over the lip and the bottom of the molding is secured by screws. I don't believe the rocker retaining strip is being reproduced yet and are getting hard to find, so I hope you have this strip as the rocker molding will not go on without it.

IF your doors were not originally drilled for the moldings you will also need to drill a much larger access hole in your door shell. From my memory these holes are almost a inch in diameter and are directly in line with the holes in the outer panel so you can access the retaining nuts. The way I would do it is find a original door with the holes and make a template out of 2" masking tape and punch out the holes and mark the templates front & rear and align them to the lower body line as a reference. Then install the template on your replacement door and your ready to drill. If you find a 70 MACH with the moldings already off you can do this on the rest of the panels it works great, just make sure you mark everything lt. and rt. front and rear.

JOE, I went up in my attic and made inside and outside templates off a pair of original 70 mach1 doors. I used 6 inch masking paper and shaded the holes in with a pencil and marked the edges. Email me so I can get your address to send out the templates. CHRIS....email is c_knobbe@charter.net

No problem JOE, glad to help you out. I uploaded a shot of the inside of the door shell I used for a template. Note the 2 inch cloth tape that covers the holes after the moldings are attached. Good luck on your project!.......CHRIS
