Are the hood hinge body nuts to be tight?
Mine move just a little bit.

Guessing that your car is disassembled (hinges off)

If there is not too much play you'll likely get by ok. Problem is that if you tighten and untighten them a couple of times the amount will increase and will lead to them failing. You can tighten them up a little by rebending the metal around them eliminating the play

Worst (or best) possible case is to tack weld from the outside and cover with sealer.

I was pretty sure they were to be tight and just wanted to check.
I will see what I can do about bending the metal to tighten them up.
If that doesn't work may add a tack to keep them from moving and be safe..

One more question - what should the finish be for the hood hinges,hood latch and the upper shock brackets on a 1969 May built Metuchen car?
Is phosphate correct?

So far, all the 69 hinges, latch and shock brackets I've done for people were a light shade phosphate, I do the springs darker.
