67 Washer bottle or bag?
« on: March 06, 2015, 01:51:35 PM »
I have a 67 hard top with a VIN date of 6/2/67.  San Jose built.  Should it have a washer bag or plastic tank for the washer reservoir?

6/2/67 My 6th birthday ;)

updated since Marty beat me to the answer:

+1 The cars that had the washer bags, would have had the hook bracket originally spot welded onto the drivers front apron.
My understanding is that your late production (6/2/67) would be the washer bottle, not the bag. Split off was several months ahead of that, but I'm not sure the exact date though. (date might vary a few days by assembly plant)

The early version, the ones that used the washer bag have a spot welded in bracket with hooks for the bag.

The later version, the ones that used the washer bottle, do not use a bracket, instead they are bolted in with 3/8" socket screws.

Hope that explains it correctly.

Thanks for the quick replies. Are there any other 67 late production variations posted on this site?

Those are for the earlier year Mustangs that had them secured with screws.

I would also expect to see the hood latch to have the longer guide pins. The late hood wiring should look like this

Yes there are more but they are often off shots of the original post

There are likely a hundred or more depending on where you place the cut off line and for specifics what plant.  So use to be thought of as running changes but now appear to be a result of other factors

Know they did the same thing (running change list) over on the SAAC site and came up will a ton - many that were related to Ford rather than the Shelby conversion

A thread just for that (sure it would in turn create many more sub threads) would be better than adding them all to a discussion about washer bag/bottles. OF course this could be done for any year - we're sort of doing that long term through asking and answering questions - its just that 65 and 67 have the greatest number of running changes for any of the classic years

I will have to study up on the hood latch differences. My car seems to be original except for the engine and some missing parts. I can't wait until the next show to really learn more.

I have the same hood wiring and clips.  I see 4 clips on the wire by the lamps.  2 each side on the inner nuts.

Thanks

That is a San Jose car - correct?

As expected that early :)  (bag over bottle)

Your car isn't #213 is it?  Or pretty close :)
Guessing that you have the narrow bag and bracket. Not the bracket with the "dog leg" as shown in the original examples below

Here are just a few examples from San Jose around the time your car was built

So is this maybe a Shelby thing? My Nov 2 66, (actual build date) 67 washer bag bracket is spot welded and definately been there since birth.
