1970 4-spd Backup Light Switch Wire Harness Routing

Hey Fellahs,

I'm interested in learning / verifying the correct clamps, clips and brackets for the backup light switch wiring harness on a 1970 with 4-speed / Hurst shifter.

I understand that there is a bracket that attaches to the side of the shifter (mine is missing, of course), as seen below:

I also found a pic showing what looks like two of the vinyl dipped J-clips attached to the top cover of the transmission.  Is this how the backup light switch cable is supposed to be routed?
I'm not sure where I found the pic, but I had it filed under speedometer cable routing for '70 CJ 4spd.




I found some related info in the '67-'68 section (http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=5432.0) that covers the '69 manual trans, and '70 3-speed, but nothing for the '70 4-speed / Hurst shifter, so I thought I would try to get some clarification.


I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row for my current projects so I can get it all back together as correctly as I can.  Plus the wire harness for my backup light is very melted from just flopping around loose against the headers, so I want to prevent my new one from meeting the same fate.

Maybe he just added them to keep the wire from going somewhere it shouldn't be.

IS there any other clips / clamps that hold that harness in place?

That '67-'68 thread shows pics of a '69, with two clips on the firewall - one for speedo cable, one for backup harness. 
Did the '70's get two clips (or straps) there too?

Mike- I think '70 is same as '69 as far as the B/U switch wire routing.  Only the rear clip detail is different because of the different shifter.  At least that is the way I am doing the one I am working on.

there is a c7zb & c9zb version  but 67-68 take 2 holders & 69 - 70 3 speed take 1  . I compared the 2 versions & almost identical except for length by bend.

Based on the '69 engine bay that DeadNutsOn showed, would it be reasonable to assume that the '70 4-speed cars also clipped the backup harness to the upper peg on the firewall (and the speedo cable to the lower peg)?

Would a regular strap-style clip be considered correct for both those pegs?

And it seems that strap and the bracket on the trans/shifter would be the only two clips holding the backup wiring harness in place?

The loops are easy because they are reproduced but the clip commonly used on that lower "button" to hold the speedo cable is not reproduced and hard to find because they usually break when removed.  You can use a loop type there too - and maybe some cars originally had that one there anyway.  Not sure on this.

Top one (sorry for the poor picture - been enlarge a fair amount) is the same clip only rotated 180 degrees and holds the brake line on that example ( a 6 cylinder)

Just wanted to provide a picture of the clip for others. They tend to split on me when I try to remove or reuse them. Have gone to cutting off the head of the post to get them off in good shape

The pic from DeadNutsOn shows a different lower clip.  Their example seems to be a '69 boss 9 though.

Mike - different than what?  It looks like the one in Jeff's picture to me..??  As I said, you can use a loop in both locations but the hard to find plastic clip Jeff's picture shows is usually on that bottom peg.
