What size hole for clutch rod? and deluxe door wires
« on: January 17, 2015, 03:30:13 PM »
Title kinda says it all.

I'm converting my 70 convertible to a 5 speed and I need to know how big of a hole to cut. I'm also adding deluxe interior and need to know hole size there too. Thanks

If you are doing an automatic to T-5 manual transmission conversion, you should consider a cable or hydraulic clutch.

I used a stock Mustang 5.0 cable, and clutch quadrant conversion from Mustang Steve. All the rest of the parts are 5.0 Fox Mustang, i.e. bell housing and clutch. Flywheel I sourced from Kajun to use with my stock 1968 J code 302-4V.

No knock out hole but there is a dimple for location.

I'll be using a hydraulic clutch. I had one in my mach 1 for years. I bought a cable kit for it first and it was such a POS I sent it back as fast as I could.

Whoa Nellie! The firewall hole depends on the size required of the mounting seal you intend to use, and I assume you will use some type of seal. The same applies to the grommets for the door and frame wire. Measure those first then determine what size holes you need.

Jim makes a good point.  The door grommets on my 69, deluxe lights, are almost 3" wide out to out.  Might want  to locate the grommets first ?  Brian

I have the grommets. I know the holes are big for deluxe lights. I have an old mach 1 door I can measure. As far as the hole for the clutch a new oem style / repop grommet will work fine. It did last time anyway. That car was already a 4 speed so I didn't have to cut the hole.
