1964.5 Radiator Identification
« on: January 05, 2015, 08:55:48 PM »
You've got yourself a Noobie here, so please be gentle if I have this in the wrong forum or missed the answer in the archives.

I am working on a friend's '64.5 F code, C-4, non A/C, Dearborn coupe with a May 11 build date and have a question or two about the radiator. We know the radiator is not original to the car, but is "close enough" for the owner. The radiator is a C4ZE, build date 4GB (1964 July 2nd week?). There is no tag soldered to the top tank or core.

The question relates to the DEP and the B1 stamped on the side strap, in front of the 4GB date.

What does the DEP stand for?

I know the B-1stamping should refer to the engine, trans, A/C or not, etc. I have seen numerous different radiators, both San Jose and Dearborn, and it seemed all had various -2 stampings. I have seen -1 stampings in pictures online and even a B1 stamping in an online article, but never an explanation as to what the B1 meant.

Can anyone help out a Noob?

Thanks in advance.

DEP= Dearborn Engine Plant

Dearborn Engine Plant
Since 1942 this 1,000-by-1,640-foot structure, situated west of the north end of the steel mill operation, has been the center for engine production at the Rouge. Each day an 8-hour shift aided by 6 miles of conveyors and 1,420 machines assembles 1,150 engines and turns out 1,050 crankshafts, 1,150 camshafts, 8,000 pistons, and 1,150 cast-iron cylinder blocks.

Sounds like radiators were also made in the engine plant?
