Steel Wheel Balancing

Going to get the tires soon from Kelsey Tire and have Discount Tire mount them for the March show in Tucson.  What is the rule for weights on the wheels or is there a rule?  Can I have the weights mounted on the inside so they are not seen or mount them on the outside as normal and or not have any mounted at all.  I don't plan on driving the car much on this wheel and tire combination as I have a set of radial tires on a set of reproduction rally wheels for local shows.

For the STyled Steel Wheels I put on my 65, I had a local Ford dealer do lug centric balancing with the weights on the inside of the rim so you can't see them.

Regular steel wheels would have had the weights on the outside from the factory.

what markings would we typically find on vintage weights? they must be different than those use today.

In any case? Dynamic Wheel/tire balancing would often require to place the weigths on the inside for proper balancing.

Predominant might be the better word choice.  But, yes, would suspect if necessary, there might be a weight on the back. 

As far as markings, have seen some with a diamond pattern and then some later with 'EXCEL' marking.

So since I don't see them listed in the judging rules, I assume these are not looked at?

If you do look at them what are you looking for as I have not seen them advertised in NPD or Virginia Mustang.  I don't know what Discount Tire uses plus you don't know what size weight you will need for the wheel.  Or are you just looking for cleanliness?

Not to hijack the thread, but since it's related:  Were the wheel weights always put on after the wheel was painted black?  Should weights ever be painted black along with the wheel?

no paint on weights. the tire had to be on first to know how much to add. can't paint wheel with tire on.
