Speedometer cable routing '70 MACH 1 -351 ?
« on: January 02, 2015, 05:45:21 PM »
Does anybody have a photo that shows the proper routing of the speedometer cable on a 351 with an FMX? Mine is held to the steering column with a zip tie. Pretty sure hrs this not factory. 😬

I strongly recommend that you get a set of Osborn Mustang Assembly Manuals for your car. The routing is on page 61 of the 70 Chassis manual. At the least, you can see what Ford Engineering intended.

You didn't mention when and where the car was built so don't know if this applies.

On the ones I'm seeing (not easy to see or get clear pictures of the details

1- Exits firewall on the far drivers side outboard of the steering column

2- Passes under the steering shaft

3- Looks like its held to the drives side frame rail (inner face) with a clamp near where the E brake clamp is

4- Routes to the front frame rail rear cross brace attached to the floor and is held to it with a sheet metal clamp

5- Enters the transmission on the tailshaft housing  on the drivers side
