Instrument panel - Anyone else seen the oddity of...
« on: December 31, 2014, 04:29:18 PM »
...the warning light showing 'GEN" but the car having an alternator charging system?

I know my car was built during the transition (SJ plant), but recently I've been wondering how many other cars might be out there with the wrong panel too.  It's no big deal when the newer parts slowly migrate onto the car in the factory (no "A" on the vent, radio has a first digit of 6, hood bumpers without the center philips screw, etc.), but is the 'ten' light with alternator charging akin to a 3-legged buffalo nickle?  ;)

I'm not going to correct it; it's all part of the car's story and I like it.

Anyhow, just curious...

Seen it before on transition cars, just another oddity that exists from a mass production assembly line.

Is there a date on the back side?  Not unusual for these to be swapped out sometime over 50 year period.

Just a possibility

Hi Jeff,
I know it's the original.  No one has had that car torn apart but me.  But I'll go look for a date on the lens tomorrow, when the garage warms up (hopefully).  It's been a brutal 48ยบ in the morning the last few days here is SoCal.

I'll post some pics if I find anything

Thanks,
Kelley

PS.  I'm keeping the original lens 'cause it's in good shape, but I'll be replacing the bezel due to worn off 'chrome'
