Just purchased 1970 MACH 1, survivor.
« on: December 30, 2014, 10:08:21 AM »
Here are a few pictures of a 1970 MACH 1 "M" code that I just purchased. It has about 85% of the original paint on the car. The body lines on the fenders are pretty thin from being polished over the years and the front apron is stone chipped real bad, but other than that the paint is still real presentable. the front 1/2 of the roof was resprayed at some point. Interior appears to be 100% original and it is in excellent shape. The car has absolutely no rust and was obviously cared for over the years. A few things show how the assembly line really did things. the jacking instructions sticker is upside down and the drivers side rocker has a big hole in the door jamb where the spot weld tore the metal. On the left 1/4 between the rocker and 1/4 trim it is amazing how they mopped on the black paint over the orange. They missed covering up 1/2 of it. Under the hood all the usual maintenance items have been changed. I will try to source the correct pieces.

Beautiful, great find, Christmas present or something to celebrate the New Year in?  How about pictures of the interior.
I almost bought one just like it (but this looks like a lighter shade of red, not the candy apple) that was a '1970 left over. I was
shopping for the best price on a 71 Mach1 and the '70 was offered to me by the salesman. I thought about it
but decided I still wanted to place my special order for the new style. Now I wish I had bought the '70 cause I could have also held onto my '66 Mustang
sprint vert instead of trading it in on the new '71. Maybe today I would have still had the 66 and the 70. Oh well.
Good luck and enjoy the Mach!!

Your trunk picture has the trunk board flipped over with tabs reversed and installed on the pass side instead of where it typically is on the driver side. The trunk mat covers it on the driver side . I think that is a past owner change. Nice car.

Dudley-- It was a Christmas gift from my wife..Well actually I asked and she gave me the OK, she is the best.
Bob- There is a trunk board on the drivers side as well.
Here are a few pictures of the interior. Door panels do not have any cracks in them and the rest is in super nice shape.

70 Mach 1 was always my first choice as an "Affordable" Mustang...I hunted avidly as a 16-year-old for a good "builder" Mach 1 in '78...Got my 67 GTA instead since it was even more affordable at the time. A $500 budget put a real "pinch" on what was affordable...I had a real cheapskate for an old man ;) We owned a Salvage Yard in Fontana Calif at the time and I had to buy my first car as an Insurance Co. "totalled out" and therefore watched many, many...MANY cars get away because of the "pinch" on the funds. It was amazing...Most decent builders at the time went for $600-$800 and often only needed a few hundred dollars in used parts to get them roadworthy again...THOSE were the days my friend :D

Can anybody tell me what this is on the speedometer cable under the dash? It has a few wires coming out of it and they go to a blue box mounted on the inner side of the firewall. I've owned several 69/70's and don't ever remember seeing this before.

Part of the dist-o-vac emission system. System was installed on the small blocks and clevelands that year.

There are a number of threads on the subject in the 69-70 section

Super nice Mach1.  It has definitely been very well maintained. AWESOME looking original interior !!
My wife has her '69 Mach1 that's been in her Family since Jan.'70. Original interior minus the dash pad, I replaced it in 1985.

That is so nice, so nice to show us and so nice to see an unmolested car!

Not all have to be Boss's  SCJ's or Shelbys.   Collectors that have "restored" cars now long for original cars.   The market is funny MOST HERE have properly restored cars that they did themselves.     SO many of the "auction" cars are mutted together, aren't proven and some go from venue to trailer to garage to venue.   Buyers that find they can't drive their cars due to this are now looking elsewhere.

Again  GOOD FOR YOU TWO!    Enjoy and be good to each other.  And thanks for sharing - that's what we do.
