1965 1966 Steering stops

Are there differences in the steering stops between 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder cars?  I know there is a difference between 1965 289 stops and 1966 6 cylinder stops.  Is the difference in stops due to the year of manufacture and the engine placed in the car? Thanks for any help

Your question is a bit confusing and can best be answered by what was installed. For 1964 thru Mustangs, all V-8 (260 and 289) steering stops were the same for both power and standard steering applications. Ford Car Parts shows C5ZZ-3A706-D and C5ZZ-3A707-D as service replacements which by the "-D" implication "may" indicate the fourth rendition. The even number is RH, the odd LH. For 1964 thru Mustang, all I-6 (170 and 200) steering stops were different for power and standard steering applications. Ford Car Parts shows C5DZ-3A706-A and C5DZ-3A707-A for power steering and C5DZ-3A706-B and C5DZ-3A707-B for standard steering. Note that these are Falcon designs.

I parted out a Jan '65 San Jose 6 cyl car a few years ago and the steering stops were different than V8 ones made at the same time of production.  I never compared them, but they looked like 64.5 style steering stops I saw later on.  Also, for whatever it's worth, the V8 ones usually have a red paint mark on the LH side.  The 6 cyl ones had olive-drab green marks on both sides.
