Topic: Need a little help with a "survivor" MACH1

I'm looking for a little help on my 1970 MACH 1 that I just bought. The car was well cared for and has the original paint and and shows no signs of having had anything apart over the years. The only signs of change are the normal maintenance items.  Who is the best source for concourse correct hoses, clamps, belts, wires, etc?  Do most of the vendors sell the same pieces or is one better than the others.

What are your plans for the car?  Preserve in as original condition or drive it?

I plan to drive it a bit but want it to look coorect. I'm not going for NOS parts but good quality reproduction

I doubt you will want either NOS or Reproduction items.    ( often both of those don't look like line parts)  If you have a car that is unmolested and running and you plan on just driving and replacing items as needed.....you have time to find them and install when you need to.

So many find a truly original car and think "I better do a starter, alt. carb fuel pump" cause they are old and I don't want to break.
But once items are gone eventually there is a discussion of "I shouldn't have this that and that" in the future.

If you post photos and ask for help I'm sure many can send you clamps. hose or items.   Can't really say not knowing you plans.needs.

Do not throw anything away.  No matter how worn, broken or ratty, at the very least, those pieces/parts can be used for reference or verification.  Brian

I never throw anything away. What the car has now is gates hoses, Napa belts and a generic battery. Trying to source the best reproduction quality that is available now. That will look better than the aftermarket pieces. Then I can take my time and find original pieces.

Although the repro parts you source will be new looking the original pieces that you take your time finding would ideally be nice used to match the patina of the surrounding parts. New parts whether repro or NOS will always stand out as replacements on a survivor type car.

As far as the battery goes the repro batteries were modeled after the 68/70 battery and are very authentic looking compared to originals of those years.

Would be best to consider OEM Ford parts, so long as the cost is not too high.  Agree with others that repro parts will stand out and possibly cheapen the original appearance of your car.  Keep in mind that good used original parts would be fine to use, maybe even preferred over NOS in some if not most cases.

Since you have an original I would focus on trying to find originals - Hunt will not be as easy as picking up the phone and just ordering but think you'll find that new parts will quickly look different and stand out on your original car

Often you can find some one restoring their car and wanting new and fresh pieces to go with the new fresh look - while you can help them get those pieces by purchasing their originals. Well at least on some parts

One such part would be the master cylinder your car needs. Better to find an original and simply have it rebuilt

While things like radiator hoses and clamps can be sourced from the current reproduction sources
