Hi,

Im just had my axle bearings replaced and was about to start cleaning up the backing plates...These are the numbers I see on each backing plate:

70398 k/h
70399 k/h

Is this correct for a 65 nine inch?

Though from a 1966 Fairlane, it has a 9" Differential and the Backing Plates are marked 70398 and 70399 as follows:

70398   70399
   KH        KH

This may lend some credence but we'll need an expert to confirm that your numbers apply to your specific application.

I don't know for sure what the correct numbers are, my example was from a different car and year. For all I know, the Fairlane may have had a rear end change.

I don't know what the new numbers you posted are from...we really need an expert in on this one, hopefully someone will reply.

This is a July 65 k car.

The 70866/70867 are Kelsey/Hayes numbers. Those equate to backing plates for 10 inch drums with 1-3/4 inch brake shoes. 10 inch drums can be found on 8 or 9 inch rear ends from various years on various Fords.

The 71085/71086 are Kelsey/Hayes numbers. Those equate to backing plates for 10 inch drums with 2 inch brake shoes. 10 inch drums can be found on 8 or 9 inch rear ends form various years on various Fords.
