Grille color

My 1969 Metuchen built sportsroof is being restored to concours driven standards and the grille needs some help.  The grille is in good shape but has some discoloration. What would you folks suggest. Can I paint the grille and if so what color do you suggest? As always I look forward to hearing from the forum folks.

Can't say that the code is usable any longer but from an older reference it was listed by Ditzler as  #32947
