1966 mustang problem installing door sill plates
« on: November 06, 2014, 11:13:33 AM »
I have a 1966 mustang coupe that I am finishing with the restoration.   I am having trouble installing the replacement Al. door sill plates.  When trying to form them over the windlass trim at the rear, or the kick panel at the front, the sill plate cracks.  Both the windlass trim and the kick panels are replacement parts made by Scott Drake, purchased from CJ Pony.  The contour of the sill plate does not match the windlass trim or sill plate.  Using a soft touch with my thumb on the windless trim caused the sill plate to crack.  I called the company and they returned my money.  I ordered another set manufactured by Scott Drake.  They may be made of a heavier Al. but the contours match the one that cracked.  Has anyone had this problem or can anyone explain how for form the sill plate over the trim and kick panel without destroying it.  I can post pictures if it would help.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Woodworker47,

I too have similar problems when replacing the scuff/sill plates and it appears there are two reproduction units.
To overcome the issue, can I suggest getting the orignial Ford Tool verison which is a more expensive but the fitment is a lot better than the cheaper verison IMHO.

I hope this helps
