So are you talking about a standard interior car with door speakers?
If so, I would put money on the hole in the door being the same as in those with deluxe door panel lamps with or without speakers.
I'm just looking at it logically, would all doors not have the same hole which would simply be plugged with a grommet if a harness is not installed.
I can't see how you would hole saw or whatever for it because the doors are mounted by the time their wiring goes in on the assembly line.
Somebody with a base car needs to chime in with either block off grommet or no hole to be sure.

I don't think cars without the harness got the holes at all.  There's a small locating dimple in factory doors that indicates where to drill for the harness holes. At least, that's my experience with the OEM '70 doors I've looked at.  This very well may have varied according to the door manufacturer, the plant, the period in which the car was built, etc.
Too much junk, too little time.

Picture is of a 69 Mach 1 with door light.  Plenty of room in this hole for a set of speaker wires.  Brian

Different cars/options = different doors and A pillars (with or without holes for the wiring) Didn't see any indication of a running change (different practices in different plants or months) but could look at everyone in the collection if need be

Example of a "nothing" coupe (both examples are later half of the production year NJ)

Example of what a Grande or Mach A pillar looked like

Thanks guys for the info it will set me in the right direction, i have another request regarding 69-70 door speakers, if someone has a NOS or an original working 69-70 door speaker could you please take an ohm reading at  speaker connectors to see what reading you get, i am getting reports that 8 ohms is what they were from the factory VS  the 4 ohm aftermarket ones that are availible today that might damage an original am/fm or am 8 track player i tried to find a spec on them but came up dead ended, thanks much,  chuck.

8 ohms is what you need alright.
Stay away from the speakers in the Mustang parts vendors catalogs.
What you want are the ones sold at turnswitch.com
I have a pair and they're great.

Thanks for the link, I had no idea anybody was reproducing the correct speakers.  I assumed that whatever was available in the vendor catalogs was pretty much all that was out there.

Can't recall on the 69 & 70's did the originals use a weather shield like the 65-66's ?  Plastic half cover on the door side
