Part ID ?
« on: September 18, 2014, 07:50:35 PM »
Carburetor choke thermostat housing one is marked AUTOLITE  T   O and the other is FoMoCo  T   N.  Both are for the 4100  4bbl. carb. and one came from the C5ZF-C  on my car.  Assembly line or service parts ?  Thanks,  Brian

The "TO" is for an automatic transmission for both 2 barrel and 4 barrel carburetors, the "TN" is for a manual transmission 4100 only. The applications are for 66 390CID engines, maybe more. Carburetor C5ZF-C is a MT 4100 with a road draft tube.

As Jim stated the TO cover is for 2v and 4v Autolite carbs with an auto. trans or manual trans, however the TN is for both 2v and 4v with manual trans only. While Ford service specs for '66 list them for FE motors (352, 390, 428), the '65 service specs list them for 289 applications. The TN unit would be the correct cover for your carb (listed as applicable to carbs C5ZF-C, E or J). One correction per the '65 service specs, the C5ZF-C (as well as C5ZF-E), is listed for a manual trans 289 with a PCV system. The C5ZF-J is listed for a manual trans 289 with road draft.

Thank you guys for your time and research efforts.  The FoMoCo  T N unit has received a replacement coil spring and has been reinstalled on the C5ZF-C carb.   Brian

The second choke thermostat housing marked AUTOLITE T O was on a service replacement carb I got at a swap meet.  The service carb. is marked 6 PH AUTOLITE 1.08 and on the under shoe area 6-65.  What are the correct applications for this particular choke thermostat housing ?  Thanks, Brian

Thanks for adding that Rodster.  I can certainly understand why the choke housing thermostat would be specific to the 2 and 4 barrel 4100 Autolite carburetor.  I don't know why they would be motor specific.  It serves one purpose; hold the throttle plate in the choke position at cold start and gradually open the throttle plate full/open when warm.  Brian
